Estimation of potential groundwater recharge by a drywell in sandy clay soil

ABSTRACT We estimated the potential groundwater recharge (Rpot) of a drywell that receives, temporarily stores, and infiltrates direct surface runoff from contribution area (180.5 m2) comprising roof cemented floor. The Rpot for traditional rainwater management similar but covered with grass was also comparison. Our methodology involved use water budget equation, monitoring rainfall soil content up to 1.92 m depth, estimation overflow using modified Puls model, determination actual evapotranspiration stress coefficient in 2017 2018. Results revealed 83.3% precipitated volume, 2.22 times higher than grass-covered (37.6%) given increased latter. In turn, urban drainage system did not demonstrate recharge. Therefore, contributes significantly apart serving as local flood control.
